PERSPECTIVES / PERSPECTIVES
RODDINO, PIEDMONT, IT
The Ente Turismo Langhe Monferrato Roero is delighted to present Perspectives / Perspectives together with Villa Arson and the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation. The main objective of this public art project is to build and transfer attention and knowledge on climate change issues both with meetings between citizens, students, experts and artists, and through the construction of symbols that become common heritage.
Perspectives / Perspectives includes a collaborative work by Liam Gillick and Hito Steyerl titled However Many Times We Ran The Model The Results Were Pretty Much The Same, 2023. The work, consisting of quartz water-based paint, will cover three facades of a historic building in the village of Roddino. The concept of the artists’ intervention stems from the viewer looking down from an elevated point of the region and observing the way the land has been divided, worked upon, and how the different crops have divided the land geometrically. The geometrical facade pattern was configured with a simple computer simulation that attempted to predict class structure and income distribution using parameters such as landownership, population size, productivity per hectare, weather, and average estimated lifespan. In the artists’ intervention, the landscape becomes formalized as an abstract social portrait rooted in the reality of the place.
Perspectives / Perspectives is on view from April 22, 2023 in Roddino.
