A cacophony of notes and rhythms sprouted across a gallery in Brooklyn on February 18 for REMAINS: Compound, a surreal performance curated by Brandon Stosuy and Matthew Barney. An 11-year-old hockey player launched clay pigeons to make wall drawings in one room, while sculptor Brian Jungen and four archers shot 300 arrows into a self-playing piano in the next. Along with a score by sound artist Raven Chacon and performance by musician Kelly Moran, the collaborative composition’s aftermath was the indelible image of a piano with arrows lodged in its belly.
